SCO, BRICS seen as unique platforms for participation in major regional projects

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) - The SCO and BRICS are unique platforms for participation in major regional projects, member of the House of Representatives Sergei Klishevich told BelTA.

“Belarus' participation in the SCO and BRICS represents an important step towards strengthening our foreign policy and economic ties with the countries whose international policy is based on mutually respectful and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Sergei Klishevich said. “Historically, Belarus has always been at the crossroads of Eastern and Western routes, playing a key role in trade and cultural exchanges between Europe and Asia. Today, participation in these international organizations helps us continue our traditions, contributing to strengthening our multi-vector foreign policy and expanding economic cooperation. The main interest of the SCO is transit, i.e. ensuring the North-South transport corridor, which will run from Russian ports and the Baltic Sea all the way to China, India and the Persian Gulf via the Caspian Sea. This entire route must be accompanied in the broadest sense of the word, including security. In this regard, the SCO in fact now provides a large and mutually beneficial transit project similar to the ancient route “from Varangians to Greeks”, which unites the interests of seemingly very different countries wishing to develop mutually beneficially.”

The SCO and BRICS are unique platforms for participation in major regional projects aimed at ensuring security, infrastructure development, including logistics, which will facilitate the export of our goods and services, the politician said. “Strengthening the sovereignty and independence of the Belarusian state directly depends on it,” he emphasized. “In addition, the SCO and BRICS help Belarus to strengthen its position in the international arena, acting as a bridge between Europe and Asia. We can actively contribute to the development of joint initiatives, share experience and strengthen coordination in the fight against common challenges, such as drug trafficking and cyber threats. Today, it is obvious to everyone that the UN or the OSCE are not only failing in these tasks, but are partly becoming instruments for the West's hybrid attacks, including economic genocide against states outside the control of the United States that seek independent policies.”

“A special interest for us is the coordination of the fight against terrorism, which has no borders, and an effective fight against it is possible only by uniting the efforts of friendly countries in our region,” Sergei Klishevich said. “Thus, participation in the SCO and BRICS corresponds to our national interests and continues Belarus' historical mission as a bridge between different civilizations and cultural traditions.”
