Santin: Europe lacks true information about Belarus

MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – There is a lack of reliable information about Belarus in Europe, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Committees of Catalonia Albert Santin made the statement on the air of the Belarusian TV channel STV, BelTA has learned.

“Indeed, there is a great deal of false information. Virtually all state-run and private TV channels pursue the same agenda in the end. In this case, the order comes from the European Union. Therefore, one cannot talk about bias or non-bias. They just execute the orders of their bosses. According to the information that reaches the audience, Belarus is a terrible dictatorship, people there die of starvation and have no freedoms. Those who control information shape the public opinion. Indeed, there are alternative mass media who eagerly hold interviews, but their outreach capacity is much smaller. Thus, it is big media outlets that decide what is true and what is false,” Albert Santin said.

In his words, many European countries are pursing the policy of double standards. “In the USA, for example, discrimination of ethnic minorities persists, like in the 1950s. The police on the street attack people with a different skin color, just because they have a different skin color. However, they are not interested in reporting about it. No one will say that there is no stability in the USA, that racism is rampant there, and that people die of hunger. They prefer discussing what evil things are taking place in Belarus. Why? Because they are interested in it. These are double standards,” he added.
