MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) – Everything is in place to build long-lasting relations between Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and Belarus, Nizhny Novgorod Governor Gleb Nikitin said as he met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 9 December, BelTA has learned.
According to the governor, the economies of Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast are very similar, they only differ in size. “The fact that Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast have a high-tech mechanical engineering industry is a good foundation to build long-term relations,” Gleb Nikitin said.
He mentioned that, for example, the nuclear engineering company Atomstroyexport that designed and coordinated the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is headquartered in Nizhny Novgorod. Therefore, as Gleb Nikitin explained, the trade grew mostly on the back of nuclear energy projects, as well as trade in hydrocarbons.
