Russian FM to visit Belarus on 27-28 October

MOSCOW, 23 October (BelTA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Belarus on 27-28 October, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on 23 October, BelTA has learned.

“On 27-28 October, at the invitation of the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay a working visit to the country as the head of the Russian delegation to take part in the 3rd [Minsk] International Conference on Eurasian Security,” Maria Zakharova said.

“This forum, organized at the initiative of the president of the Republic of Belarus, has been held in Minsk for three years in a row. During this time, the conference has become a leading international platform to discuss important issues related to the security of states in Eurasia. It brings together senior officials, the leadership of executive bodies of integration associations operating on the continent, such as the Union State, CSTO, CIS, and SCO, as well as representatives of the academic and expert communities and the media,” the spokesperson noted.

She added that Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to deliver remarks at the plenary session of the Minsk Conference, focusing on ways to implement Russia's initiative to create an architecture for Eurasian security and the development of the Eurasian Charter for Multipolarity and Diversity in the 21st century. In his speech, the minister also intends to present current assessments of the military-political situation in Eurasia.

“On the sidelines of the conference, Sergey Lavrov will hold working meetings with the minister of foreign affairs of Belarus and with high‑level representatives of other foreign states,” Maria Zakharova added.
