MOSCOW, 15 September (BelTA) – The opposition's appeals for economic sabotage will fall on deaf ears due to the high quality of Belarusian goods, BelTA learned from Kirill Koktysh, Assistant Professor of the Political Theory Department of the MGIMO University.

The expert said: “Appeals for economic sabotage have zero chances of realization due to a simple reason: the Belarusian economy is export-oriented. Besides, Belarusians have always been patriots of their own products due to their quality and prices. If we compare Belarusian products to some other ones, the products stimulate patriotism by themselves. This is why no boycott will happen.”

The expert believes that street protests are more dangerous than appeals to boycott Belarusian goods. “Protests in Belarus are a very dangerous phenomenon that is controlled by one Telegram channel. A mob is always brainless and can theoretically accomplish anything if passions run wild,” he stressed.

Kirill Koktysh believes that the Belarusian government's idea to reform the Constitution may reduce the degree of dissatisfaction. “Constitutional transformation may allow draining emotional tension and may direct the political process into a stable institutional channel,” he noted. “Because over the last 200 years not a single reform has been implemented in the streets. Any changes happen via calm and smart institutional transformations.”
