Russia set to help Belarus develop nuclear industry, related fields

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) - Russia is determined to continue helping Belarus develop the nuclear industry and related fields, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the media following his talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 24 May, BelTA has learned.

The Russian head of state considers energy as one of the priority sectors of bilateral cooperation. In his words, Russia supplies oil and gas to Belarus on preferential terms. The joint project for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was successfully completed in November 2023. The plant is operating at full capacity today.

“We are certainly determined to continue helping our Belarusian friends to develop their nuclear industry, and to strengthen cooperation in related high-tech sectors such as digitalization, nuclear medicine, energy storage systems,” he said.
 
Speaking about cooperation in the transport sector, Vladimir Putin announced plans to further increase the transit of Belarusian goods through Russia. To make this happen the parties are working on increasing the capacity of transport corridors, modernizing trade and logistics infrastructure.
