Rudy: Belarusian language gaining popularity in China, and Chinese - in Belarus

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) - Learning the Belarusian language is gaining popularity in China, and Chinese - in Belarus, Belarusian Deputy Education Minister Sergei Rudy said during the Chinese Ambassador's award ceremony to honor the best students of schools, universities and the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology (RCIS) at Belarusian State University in Minsk on 22 November, BelTA has learned.

"Today's event is very important for several reasons. We are proud of the students who have excelled in learning the Chinese language and showed high results at Olympiads, creative and scientific competitions. This is also another confirmation of the high level of relations between the two countries in education," Sergei Rudy said and stressed that great importance is attached to popularization, support and expansion of opportunities for learning the Chinese language.

The Belarusian Education Ministry is implementing a wide range of measures to meet the country's demand for specialists fluent in the Chinese language, the deputy minister noted. Chinese language programs are run both in schools and in universities.

Sergei Rudy thanked Chinese Ambassador in Belarus Xie Xiaoyong for the effective support of the of initiatives. "In your person, we always feel a reliable partner," he stressed. The deputy minister also hailed the role of the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology (RCIS) at Belarusian State University and other Confucius institutions in the country and congratulated the students on the award.

Rector of Belarusian State University Andrei Korol spoke about the Belarusian-Chinese projects and initiatives implemented at the university. Currently, about 1,000 students study Chinese at Belarusian State University.
