Aleksandr Volfovich
MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – The purpose of the antiterrorist exercise is to ensure the security of Belarus citizens and verify readiness to respond to modern risks, challenges, and threats, BelTA learned from State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich.
The state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus heard out a report on progress of an antiterrorist exercise in Brest Oblast on 12 June.
Aleksandr Volfovich said: “This exercise is not spontaneous. We analyze on a systemic basis the situation evolving around our country and the geopolitical situation in the world as a whole. We evaluate modern risks, challenges, and threats in matters concerning national security. We use the resulting conclusions to make plans on training our forces and assets that belong to the national security system.”
The state secretary of the Security Council remarked that the system includes not only the State Control Committee (KGB) but also the army, the State Border Committee, and other forces and assets. “All these events have been scheduled. There is no emergency,” he stressed.
Aleksandr Volfovich added that the KGB is primarily responsible for responding to terrorist attacks. “Certainly, in addition to external threats we also evaluate the situation that may evolve inside the country. Everything always starts from the inside. This is why we have to be ready to neutralize threats and to ensure security in the territory of our country. This is why we conduct such exercises with forces and assets of the state system meant to respond to terrorist attacks,” he stated.
The state secretary of the Security Council also noted that the purpose of the exercise is to verify readiness to respond to risks, challenges, and threats. “After hearing out the relevant conclusions from officials, I see that we have definitely worked out an algorithm. Everyone understands what to do and how. And we are now moving towards practical steps as part of this exercise. According to the plan, not only special KGB units will be employed but also special units of the border service and other agencies. As well as units of the Emergencies Ministry and the Healthcare Ministry. I think they will be able to accomplish their tasks,” he noted.
Aleksandr Volfovich assured that an analysis will be performed in the wake of the exercise: “We will see what we have failed to do. This is why these exercises take place. We will make the relevant conclusions and will make adjustments if we have to to some response protocols and will take it into account during combat training classes. The most important thing is to be ready to respond to modern risks, challenges and threats in addition to ensuring security.”
