MOSCOW, 17 December (BelTA) - Belarus might have a module on the new Russian space station, General Director of the State Corporation for Space Activities Roscosmos Yury Borisov said during a ceremony to honor Roscosmos representatives in the Belarusian Embassy in Moscow on 17 December, BelTA learned.
Yury Borisov recalled that the flight of the first Belarusian cosmonaut Marina Vasilevskaya became a landmark event of this year. “Hopefully, this flight will not be the last one. We are developing a new Russian space station. We hope that there will be a place for Belarusian cosmonauts on this station,” he said.
“It will be even better if we together build a separate Belarusian module as part of our station, which will explore near-Earth space for many years,” Yury Borisov stated.
"Surely such cooperation would give an impetus to some new areas of cooperation and the development of new equipment. This will bring only benefits," Oleg Novitsky stated.
Executive Director for Manned Space Programs at Roscosmos, Hero of the Soviet Union and Russia Sergei Krikalev noted that cosmonautics is not only about flights; it is also about joint research and experiments, processing the obtained results, and delivering equipment. According to him, as it was earlier with Salyut, Mir and the ISS, the new Russian station will also host international cooperation projects, including joint manned flights. "The creation of joint modules will be the highest level of cooperation," Sergei Krikalev added.

Russian cosmonauts also supported the idea of building the Belarusian module on the new space station. Hero of Russia and native of Belarus Oleg Novitsky pointed out that such a project will be important for politics and economy. "It would be great to have Belarus’ own module on the Russian space station that would operate relatively independently. It would further integration and cooperation between industrial centers," he said.
