MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) - The construction of the nuclear power plant has spurred the development of Ostrovets District, BelTA learned from by the press service of Rosatom State Corporation.
On 28 August Ostrovets celebrated the City Day. The Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation (general designer and general contractor of the Belarusian NPP construction project) is a traditional partner of the City Day events. This year it held a scientific and constructive plain-air event Otkrytie (Discovery), the program of which was prepared with the assistance of the Atomic Energy Information Centers (ICAE), with the support of the Ostrovets District Executive Committee and the national center of student work brigades at the Belarusian BRSM Youth Union.
Since the launch of the Union State's largest energy project, Rosatom enterprises have been actively involved in the life of the city, district and the region, implementing projects aimed at developing engineering infrastructure, social and cultural facilities, and supporting sports and education. A total of 136 projects have been implemented in the region with the participation of the Russian nuclear companies. "Active participation in the life of the regions is one of the main principles of all enterprises of Rosatom State Corporation, regardless of their geographical location," said Viktor Brich, deputy director of the representative office of the Russian engineering company Atomstroyexport in Belarus
"Now Ostrovets is a prosperous, rapidly developing and yet cozy and comfortable city, which has everything you need for life. Nuclear specialists and their families make the backbone of Ostrovets population today. There are also doctors, teachers, builders, salesmen and many others. The total population is about 14,000. The city is developing on all fronts. Residential quarters, social and cultural facilities, stadiums and sports facilties are being built and upgraded. Dozens of kilometers of roads have been laid, and new stores and cafes have been opened. The tourist industry is actively developing as well,” said chairman of the Ostrovets District Executive Committee Igor Shaludin.
Three new neighborhoods have been built in the city since the launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project. Some 4,086 apartments with the total area of 315,000m2 have been commissioned.
The first stage of the Central District Clinical Hospital for 380 patients has been built to become a large interregional medical center featuring an interregional radiology department with computer and magnetic resonance imaging machines, and also X-ray endovascular surgery and cardiology units.
The Engineering Division with assistance and support of Rosatom State Corporation has donated the Ostrovets hospital a PCR laboratory for COVID-19 testing. The division takes an active part in new educational programs in pre-school and school institutions, provides assistance to new sports grounds.
