MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin outlined the priority areas of work for the next five-year period at the meeting of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers to review progress to implement state programs in 2021-2024 and assess their effectiveness, BelTA has learned.
“The head of state has defined key areas of development for the next five-year period. Priority attention will be given to construction of high-quality roads, recycling of solid municipal waste and the use of pellets. It is necessary to repair and renovate 25,000 km of roads, which is 1.9 times more than what was planned for the current five-year period. Speaking about all these kilometers and linear meters of roads, I would like to emphasize that these roads should meet modern quality standards,” said Aleksandr Turchin.
In his opinion, the emphasis should be placed on the local road network. “Small settlements and agro-towns should have good transport links with district centers and oblast centers. High-quality modern roads, along with rental housing, are pivotal elements of the regional development strategy in the new five-year period,” the prime minister remarked.
Waste management is also among the priorities for the next five-year period. The state program “Comfortable Housing and Favorable Environment” was assessed as effective by the interdepartmental commission on state programs. “That said, at the meeting on 20 May the head of state set specific tasks to improve the efficiency of waste management, namely to significantly reduce the disposal of solid municipal waste at landfills, and to ramp up recycling and the use of secondary raw materials ” recalled Aleksandr Turchin.
The head of state also demanded increasing the use of pellets domestically. “Today, enterprises producing pellets work at less than 10% of their capacity. It is necessary to accelerate the work on converting boiler houses to using this type of fuel. Particular attention should be paid to boiler houses in agricultural towns,” the prime minister said.
