Refugees on border with Poland: Helicopter, water cannon, barbed wire

GRODNO, 15 November (BelTA) - The refugees who approached the Polish checkpoint on 15 November faced fences, military hardware and armed men, BelTA has learned.

The makeshift camp on the border with Poland near the Bruzgi checkpoint existed for a week. Belarus supplied the refugees with water and firewood, provided necessary help. Today thousands of people have gone towards the Polish border crossing point Kuznica Bialostocka. All of them want to get into the European Union.

“We are tired of waiting. We are cold,” one of the men in the column said.

“We are going to Germany. We are going to cross the border!” said another man. There are many children and women in the column.

Their expectations were not fulfilled. The Polish side put up a barbed wire fence guarded by armed men, water cannons, and an attack helicopter flying over. From loudspeakers they are warning to use force against the refugees if they attempt to cross the border.

“Look, there is no democracy there!” a refugee emotionally shouted to the media.

The refugees have settled along the fence. They are not showing any aggression. They hope for a peaceful resolution of the situation.
