GRODNO, 17 November (BelTA) – Refugees have been provided with hot meals in a logistics hub not far from the Belarusian border. Meals will be available several times a day, BelTA has learned.
On 16 November Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Karanik and President's Aide – Inspector for Grodno Oblast Yuri Karayev to open a temporary refugee accommodation center in the transport and logistics hub near the border checkpoint Bruzgi. Instead of staying in the camp they had set up near the Polish border the refugees were invited to go indoors. The refugees were issued mattresses, dry and warm clothes, and provided with all the necessities. A total of about 1,000 people are staying in the warehouse now. There are a lot of families with kids. Today was their first warm night over the course of many days.
Measures are being taken to provide the refugees with everything they need, including hot meals. Tea and boiled eggs were delivered to the refugees today. Hot porridge and tea will be available for lunch. The meals are cooked by Belarusian soldiers. Organizations and concerned citizens also continue delivering food to the refugees. The food is used to make food baskets. For instance, this morning the refugees were given milk, yoghurts, confectionery, and bread. Women and children are prioritized.
Heated tents are used as meal stations. Food distribution is properly organized. Drinking water is also delivered. There is no shortage of drinking water.
Portable toilets have been installed. The refugees promise to keep things in order and throw waste into special containers. They thanked the Belarusian side for aid and hope for a favorable resolution of the situation.
