MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) - Iraqi refugees, who are ready to fly home from Belarus, are checking in for an evacuation flight at Minsk National airport, BelTA has learned.
The flight will take the route Minsk-Erbil-Baghdad. Earlier, the Iraqi authorities said that 430 people had registered for the flight.
The plane is currently on its way to Belarus to evacuate the Iraqi citizens. The Iraqi Airways aircraft is expected to land in Belarus at 12:45pm. It will leave for Iraq at 1:45pm.
According to one of the refugees, he tried to cross the Belarusian-Polish border seven times, but failed. He was detained by the Polish police and pushed back to Belarus. In his words, it was very cold at the border, and now he has no opportunities to get to Europe, so he has decided to return home.
Another Iraqi citizen also wanted to get to Germany, but stuck at the border. “It was very cold at the border, it was very bad there. Poland does not respect human rights. Am I a terrorist? No, I am a person like you. I worked as a journalist for an Iraqi television channel,” he said.
