Refugee: We will be waiting for corridor to Germany, will not return to Iraq

Refugee: We will be waiting for corridor to Germany, will not return to Iraq

GRODNO, 29 November (BelTA) - Refugees are prepared to wait, as long as necessary, for a positive outcome and for the opening of a humanitarian corridor to Germany. They do not want to return to Iraq, a refugee named Halo told BelTA.

Today is the 22nd day for the refugees at the border. They are living in the temporary accommodation facility in the transport and logistics center near the Bruzgi border checkpoint. Among them is a native of Iraqi Kurdistan named Halo, who, along with his parents, brothers, sisters and other relatives, is not losing hope of reaching Germany.

"We have a family of 11 people. None of them will return to Iraq. It's a matter of our safety. There is no work, no money. I graduated from the university with a degree in geology, but I am not needed at home. I want to work," the man said. He stressed that refugees are prepared to wait, as long as necessary, until the humanitarian corridor is opened.

"The only thing that scares is the coming cold. We don't have that kind of weather in our country. I am grateful to Belarus for the help. We have a roof over our heads, we are provided with food. Therefore, we are waiting for the solution of our issue," Halo said.

The refugees living in the temporary accommodation facility in the transport and logistics center are provided with food and drinking water. Medical teams are on standby 24/7. A mobile banya house has been deployed on the spot.
