Refugee on borderline: We are exhausted, but still hope to get to Germany

GRODNO, 17 November (BelTA) – One of refugees from Iraq living in a makeshift camp at the checkpoint on the Belarus-Poland border said that refugees will keep trying to get to Germany through Poland no matter what, BelTA has learned.

“We are exhausted. Yet, our desire to get to Poland and then to Germany is stronger than exhaustion. We do not understand why Poland does not let us in. We hope that our problem will be resolved soon. We have been here for many days already. At home I worked as an engineer but it became too dangerous to stay there. We want a normal, calm life,” said the man who introduced himself as Khalif.

The situation in the camp is calm by and large. Groups of refugees with children approach the fence every now and then and try to talk to the Polish security forces asking to let them cross the border.
