Refugee: ‘My grandson asks me every day why Germany won't let us in'

GRODNO, 9 December (BelTA) - My grandson asks me every day why Germany won't let us in, a refugee currently living in the transport and logistics center on the Belarusian-Polish border told BelTA.

"My grandson is 12 years old. He often asks me why we are called refugees and why we are not allowed into the country where we want to live, why we are here and what will happen to us next,” the tearful woman said. “He sees on the Internet how children live in Germany. He also dreams of riding a bicycle, laughing and most importantly of knowing that he will have a good future.”

She also noted that the refugees are very grateful to the Belarusians for their help in this difficult time. "We appreciate the support of the Belarusians. Thanks to them we are holding out now. I urge the European Union to take pity in us and let us across the border until 19 December when my people celebrate a holiday. This is a holy holiday for us, when everyone forgives each other, visit each other and celebrate life. We very much hope that our situation will be resolved by the time of our holiday," the refugee said.
