Refugee: I hoped western doctors would treat my seriously ill child

GRODNO, 20 December (BelTA) - Some refugees seek to get to Germany and other EU countries to give their children a chance for a better life, an Iraqi refugee, who is staying on the Belarus-Poland border, told BelTA.

Refugees have been staying in a temporary accommodation facility at the transport and logistics center Bruzgi near the Belarusian-Polish border for 43 days already. There are about 600 people here in total, many of whom are women and children. Belarus continues to provide refugees with everything they need.

“I am here with my big family. There are seven of us, including small children. My child is seriously ill, no one could help him in Iraq. In Germany there is a chance for successful treatment. They, however, do not want to let us in,” the 54-year-old man said. He has no intention of going back to Iraq.

“The situation there is very difficult in what concerns security, freedom, life opportunities. There are no schools, no hospitals, no jobs,” he stressed.
