GRODNO, 10 December (BelTA) – I want to get to Europe and study to become a doctor, a refugee from Iraq told BelTA.
Refugees have been stranded at the Belarus-Poland border for 33 days already. Now they are living in the temporary accommodation facility set up at the logistics hub near the Bruzgi checkpoint. There are many children among them.
"I finished the 10th grade. I want to continue my education. My dream is to become a doctor. I couldn't have done that in Iraq," the 16-year-old refugee said. He is living in the transport and logistics center together with his parents and siblings. The family is large - six people.
The teenager said that the family had to hit the road. "My father once had a shop. Now there is no opportunity to do business, there is no work. It has become unsafe to live there," the teenager said. He hopes that the situation will be resolved safely for his family.
"We are not going back to Iraq. It is good that Belarus helps us. They have provided us with food, a roof over our heads. Probably, in such a cold weather we would not have survived in the forest,” the young man said.
