MOSCOW, 19 November (BelTA) – Quality preparations were made in Belarus for the peacekeeping exercise Nerushimoye Bratstvo 2020 [Indestructible Brotherhood]. Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Anatoly Sidorov made the statement during the videoconference session of the CSTO Military Committee held on 19 November to discuss the advancement of military cooperation, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about joint training events in 2020, Anatoly Sidorov mentioned quality preparations for and proper execution of a strategic command and staff exercise at premises of the CSTO crisis response center, the logistic support and materiel exercise Echelon 2020, a command and staff exercise for the CSTO collective security forces command in Russia, and the command and staff exercise Nerushimoye Bratstvo 2020 for peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Belarus' territory.
Anatoly Sidorov stressed that no problems had been encountered in the course of preparations for joint events from the point of view of methods and guidelines, in the course of joint combat training events. The ability of participants to travel to another country despite restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the need to take preventive measures to stop the spread of the virus in the exercise areas were the main problems this year.
The videoconference session was chaired by Chairman of the CSTO Military Committee, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, First Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov. Participants of the session discussed challenges and threats to military security in the Caucasus region, the Eastern Europe region, and the Central Asia region of the CSTO collective security system. Representatives of general staffs of the armed forces of Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan made their reports. The chief of the CSTO Joint Staff informed members of the CSTO Military Committee about the main results of military cooperation of the CSTO member states and directions of its development in the medium term.
