‘Pure politics’. Expert explains Poland's decision to close borders with Belarus

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) - Poland's decision to close its borders with Belarus is exclusively political, Nikolai Buzin, Member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Poland's decision to close the borders is pure politics. Poland's main idea is to attract the attention of European states, to demonstrate its readiness and ability to ensure the interests of NATO and all of Europe, as they put it, on the eastern flank,” said Nikolai Buzin.

According to the MP, Poland is currently “fighting” for European Union money to develop its own Armed Forces. The sum in question exceeds $40 billion. In Nikolai Buzin's opinion, Poland is doing “everything possible and impossible” to get this money.

“Poland's step to close the borders is demonstrative, extremely harsh from the point of view of international law and from the point of view of human rights compliance. Let's be frank: this is a violation of human rights. Therefore, it is a purely political, deeply biased decision,” he said.

Another factor that influenced Warsaw's decision to close the borders is the domestic political situation in Poland, Nikolai Buzin said. He emphasized that there is a struggle between various parties in the country. The only thing that unites the opposing forces in Poland is Russophobia and a negative attitude towards Belarus.
