Prospects for restoring ecosystems of disturbed peatlands until 2040 discussed in Minsk

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - Belarus' achievements in restoring the ecosystems of disturbed peatlands and a long-term plan for their restoration until 2040 were discussed at a meeting to discuss the progress towards the SDGs in Minsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus.

The meeting of the interdepartmental group of experts on environment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals was attended by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Aleksandr Goroshko. The participants focused on Indicator 12.4.2. "Generation of hazardous waste per capita and proportion of hazardous wastes treated, by type of treatment" as part of SDG 12 "Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns ", Indicator 6.3.1 "Proportion of safely treated wastewater" of SDG 6 " Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all" and others.

Belarus' achievements in restoring ecosystems of disturbed peatlands and a long-term plan for their restoration until 2040 were analyzed as part of the discussion of the progress towards of SDG 15 "Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss”.
