Prosecutor’s office: Criminal case into genocide of Belarusian people will take long to investigate

MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – It will take the Prosecutor General's Office long to investigate the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War, Sergei Shikunets, deputy head of the department for supervision over the investigation of especially important criminal cases of the Prosecutor General's Office, said in a new episode of BelTA’s Nation Speaks project.

According to Sergei Shikunets, the investigation of this criminal case should have been started much earlier. “We have so much information that we will investigate it for a long time. One of the goals of this investigation is to establish all the facts of criminal atrocities, to achieve the prosecution of all the criminals who have escaped punishment and retribution. We should have talked about it all the time,” he emphasized.

According to the deputy head, every day the Prosecutor’s Office learns new facts in the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people. “We have established more than 3,000 more rural settlements that were affected during the war. We have established more than 40 previously unknown punitive operations carried out in our country, more than 100 previously unknown death camps,” he cited the figures.
