Prosecutor general: Belarus has faced unprecedented external pressure

MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – Belarus has come under unprecedented external pressure, Belarus' Prosecutor General Andrei Shved said as he met with the staff of the Belarusian confectionery Kommunarka, BelTA has learned.

The meeting discussed the outcomes of the 6th Belarusian People's Congress. Andrei Shved informed Kommunarka's employees about the main areas of social, economic, and political development of the country that had been outlined during the congress.

“In fact, last year – and this is an indisputable fact – Belarus saw a coup attempt. There is no other way to call that. We faced an attempt of a color revolution, its radical form. The pressure has been unprecedented. However, the government system, including the law enforcement system, proved strong and viable,” Andrei Shved said. “New technologies were used against us. We understood that we live in two realities: the everyday one and the one promoted online, in Telegram channels. We were not ready for that and experienced a heavy blow. Since then, work has been underway to find forms and methods to fight the negative influence of internet resources and all these technologies,” he added.

According to the prosecutor general, it is important to meet with staff of enterprises following the Belarusian People's Congress. “The aim of such meetings is to communicate with people, discuss the topics that are important for them,” he noted. “The 6th Belarusian People's Congress was a landmark event for our country. It outlined the country's development for the near future. It is important to inform everybody about the key issues on the agenda of the congress, convey the spirit of the event, all thoughts and ideas voiced by its participants during the congress and on its sidelines. We should talk to people and answer their questions. We cannot dismiss any matter. People are interested in various matters, from employment – unjustified dismissal, wage issues to the most general matters – the constitutional reform, the country's future economic and social development,” Andrei Shved noted.

There are various means of presenting information, Andrei Shved pointed out. “Wouldn't you agree that it is best to meet face to face? During such meetings, people can express their thoughts and concerns, get answers and discuss them. This is essential,” he added.
