MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Olga Chupris talked about pardons for Belarusians, who participated in street riots in 2020, in an interview with the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Olga Chupris said: “In 2021 the president made decisions on granting pardons, including to individuals, who had committed crimes relating to protests. In 2022 this category accounted for 77% of the total number of those, who were granted pardons and clemency. And we know that a handful of individuals were pardoned or granted clemency in 2023.”

“Although these individuals opposed interests of the country in a complicated period for our state, the president pardoned them. The president saw them. He gave them a chance for a decent life, for integration into our society. In other words, he trusted them as a whole,” the official noted.
