Preparations for Belarus-Russia regional forum discussed in Minsk

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) - The Council of the Republic hosted a meeting between Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalia Kochanova and Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Yury Vorobyov on 2 June. The meeting focused on the preparations for the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

"We attach great importance to the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, which will be held on 30 June - 1 July," Yury Vorobyov told reporters. “Its preparation requires considerable attention. For this purpose, we will go through the program of the forum once again, discuss the issues that need to be resolved before it begins. Therefore, the only goal is to prepare and hold this extremely important forum for our countries and regions in the best possible way."

According to him, the regions show a great interest in the forum. "We have 47 regions who want to participate in this forum. 41 governors, 18 representatives of legislative bodies are going to attend. There will be delegations of the leading ministries, the official delegation of the Russian Parliament, a large number of invitees," the deputy chairman said. "We are gearing up to sign more than 20 major contracts, agreements between economic entities, regions of Belarus and Russia."

The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is held annually under the auspices of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia. The 9th edition of the Forum of Regions will be held in Grodno. Its theme is "The role of interregional cooperation in advancing integration in the Union State".
