MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Belarusian mercenaries, who fight on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VSU), understand that the situation is not in favor of Ukraine, so they fear for their future, Vasily Veremeichik, a mercenary who participated in the hostilities in Ukraine as a member of the Kalinovsky Regiment, recognized as a terrorist organization in Belarus, said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
According to Vasily Veremeichik, Belarusian mercenaries, who fight on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, understand that the situation on the front is not in favor of Ukraine. “On the other hand, the understanding that any war ends in peace, while the truce talks are already underway, raise concerns among Belarusians, who have fought or are fighting and are on the territory of Ukraine,” the mercenary said.
He explained what the fears of Belarusian mercenaries were connected with. “Ukrainians will take care of their own people, Poles – of their own, Lithuanians – of their own. The POW swap pool is not so big. There are fears that Ukraine will simply extradite Belarusians to the Russian Federation or Belarus. Including active military personnel. Thus, they will just end up here and face the law enforcement agencies, the court,” he said.
Vasily Veremeichik, answering the question about the reasons for his departure from the Kalinovsky Regiment, said that there were quite a lot of reasons. Among them were injury and the deteriorating psychological situation in the ranks of terrorists. “Numerous conflicts began. Especially between this political part in Kiev and the guys who were really at the front,” the mercenary said.
