Poll: No signs of inter-ethnic discord in Belarus

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – An opinion survey conducted by the Information and Analysis Center in Q4 2015 showed that there are no signs of inter-ethnic discord in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

An overwhelming majority of respondents (96%) characterized the relations between representatives of different ethnicities in Belarus as calm. “It is noteworthy that the opinion is shared by young Belarusians and adults, people living in urban and rural areas,” representatives of the center pointed out.

As for ethnic self-identification, 81.5% of respondents said they are Belarusians, 11% indentified themselves as Russians, 4% as Polish, 2.5% as Ukrainians. As many as 0.5% named other ethnicities.

A vast majority of Belarus' population (86.5%) believe there is no ethnic discrimination in the country.
