MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – The majority of Belarusians think that the economic situation in the country will get even better in a year, Director of the EcooM think tank Sergei Musiyenko told BelTA.
The sociological survey “Factors of sustainable development” was conducted by EcooM from 1 to 21 October 2024. The survey polled 1,580 people of different gender, age, educational attainments, place of residence and region. The margin of error is below 2.5%.
The respondents were asked "How do you think the economic situation in Belarus will change in a year?". The breakdown was the following: 75.8% of respondents answered "will remain the same or improve", 7.9% said "will get worse", 4.1% replied "will significantly get worse", and 12.2% of respondents found it difficult to answer.
"A total of 75.8% of respondents answered ‘will remain the same or improve’. Certainly, this is a great result. It is mostly an assessment of the work being done in the country. It reflect the optimistic feeling of people get from full-stocked shelves of shops, the availability of goods and the increase in salaries and pensions. It is a very comprehensive assessment and, frankly speaking, the results are encouraging. Note that the number of people who think it will get worse make up a smaller percentage, it is an insignificant number of people. Another 12.2% of respondents found it difficult to answer. These people just do not read newspapers and watch television. They live their own lives, close themselves off and do not compare how other people and other countries live. You know, neighboring countries conduct similar surveys and get very negative results, especially amid the worsening economic situation and more difficult life in general. And here we see very positive dynamics," Sergei Musiyenko said.
