Politician: Lithuania may cease to exist in 100 years

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – If Lithuanians continue to remain silent, the country may cease to exist in 100 years, former Lithuanian presidential candidate Eduardas Vaitkus told a press conference in BelTA’s press center in Minsk on 13 May, BelTA has learned.

The politician was asked whether he is afraid to return home from Belarus. "My wife is very afraid. But I have made up my mind and I am not afraid. As a patriot of Lithuania, I need to act decisively.  If not me, who? Who will act if everyone is afraid? What are we waiting for? In 100 years, Lithuania may cease to exist," Eduardas Vaitkus said.

The politician admitted that he does not see his life outside his homeland. “We are nothing without our homeland. We must act. It does not matter whether there is a threat or not. It is our duty. If you are a citizen of your country, you must act. And have faith,” he noted.
