MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – The leadership of Lithuania leads the country towards the destruction of the nation and the statehood. The former Lithuanian presidential candidate Eduardas Vaitkus made the relevant statement at a meeting with Chairman of the Belarusian political party Belaya Rus Oleg Romanov, BelTA has learned.
Eduardas Vaitkus recalled that he ran for Lithuanian presidency in 2024. The politician explained why he had sought the office. “To put it mildly, my patience ran out. And I said that in Lithuania there was no political force that would see the life of the country within the framework of the Lithuanian Constitution. They break it and do whatever they like to it. This is why I called Lithuanian authorities traitors,” Eduardas Vaitkus said.
According to the politician, Lithuania needs a political force that has to be radically different from the forces that have been governing Lithuania for three decades.
“They change only their jackets and ties. They don’t change themselves. They are supporters of the system that is geared towards confrontation and search for a conflict. The main difference between myself and other seven candidates was my saying we don’t need a war with Russia,” he remarked.
Apart from that, the former Lithuanian presidential candidate added that he had expressed the opinion that Lithuania should be a self-dependent state. “Lithuania should be a neutral state while Lithuanians should be masters of their own country. Over 100,000 Lithuanian citizens backed the thought. But right after voting Lithuanian authorities said that we are problem people, that something should be done about us, that it is necessary to amend the law,” Eduardas Vaitkus stated.
The politician is convinced that common sense can still prevail: “Lithuania should not be destroyed but our government leads us along the path of destruction of both Lithuanians and the statehood.”
