"On Point"
MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) - The decision to deploy Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus helped reduce tensions in the Eastern European region, Polish political scientist and publicist Tomasz Gryguć said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Belarus is not a densely populated country, but Minsk is pursuing a wise policy. That is a great thing. If Belarus fell under the influence of the West, it would turn out to be a real disaster. In fact, it would be the third world war. We are already standing on the threshold of the third world war. The question is where everything will move,” Tomasz Gryguć said.
Speaking about the conflict in Ukraine, which will end sooner or later, the political analyst expressed confidence that someone will have to pay for it and someone will prepare a bill: “I am afraid that it is the Poles who will pay a very high price. Both in territories and resources. Although, in fact, we have already paid so much for the Ukrainians that it exceeds human understanding. If we talk about mercenaries, it is the Poles who have died the most.”
In his opinion, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko stopped the escalation in the region with the help of Russian allies, who agreed to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory. “This has cooled down Washington. It would be already difficult to organize Maidan. Just like it would be difficult to provoke any action against Belarus. Of course, such an escalation can happen, but it will be part of something bigger. The Americans can simultaneously use their resources against Belarus and Russia in Europe,” Tomasz Gryguć said.
The political analyst also drew attention to the fact that the USA under Donald Trump's leadership is seeking to develop the world's largest missile defense system called Golden Dome, which, as expected, could lead to the militarization of space. “This immediately casts doubt on any possibility of an agreement between Russia and the USA, including on Ukraine,” he added.
