Poland, Belarus discuss Belovezhskaya Pushcha protection measures

MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) - A delegation of the Supreme Audit Office of the Republic of Poland, led by director of the Supreme Audit Office regional unit in Bialystok Janusz Pawelczyk, visited the State Control Committee of Belarus within the activity of the Working Group on Environmental Auditing of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI), BelTA learned from the State Control Committee of Belarus.

The Supreme Audit Office of Poland heads this EUROSAI working group, and the State Control Committee is a member of the group.

The agreement on the visit to the State Control Committee of Belarus was reached at the recent meeting of the EUROSAI working group to discuss an international coordinated audit of the protection and conservation of the unique lowland forests of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

“Belovezhskaya Pushcha is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has remained in relatively intact condition only on the territory of Belarus and Poland. Given the importance of the topic, the representatives of the State Control Committee and the Supreme Audit Office have discussed the contribution of the supreme audit institutions to environmental security and protection of the forest fund, the creation of a joint platform for solving common problems in this area,” the State Control Committee of Belarus said.

The parties also discussed other issues of cooperation between the two auditing authorities within the EUROSAI, including at the regional level.
