MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - The parade dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus will be held in Minsk on 3 July, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said during a meeting of the national organizing committee for the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, BelTA has learned.
"At previous meetings, we mapped out the areas of our work and formulated specific instructions. I will dwell on the main issues that we have resolved since the last meeting. Thus, the head of state supported the proposal by the organizing committee to hold the parade of the troops of the Minsk garrison near the Minsk - Hero City monument on 3 July. We need to do our utmost and deliver the high-quality event," Roman Golovchenko said.
He recalled that at the first meeting the organizing committee suggested applying an unconventional creative approach to the design of streets and avenues in Minsk, especially those whose names are associated with memorable dates.
"Today we need to decide on the invitation of foreign guests and delegations for the celebrations and the engagement of young people in the events," the prime minister added.
Another item on the agenda was the proposal to honor of towns and communities with the title “For courage and perseverance during the Great Patriotic War”. The corresponding decree No. 44 was signed by the head of state on 2 February.
Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev, in turn, noted that Minsk is very seriously preparing for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus. "This is really a sacred holiday for all Belarusians. This date obliges us to remember the people who, at the cost of their lives, liberated our country and defeated fascism. We have prepared a lot of events in the capital. We will decorate all the iconic places - Victory Square, Oktyabrskaya Square, Pobediteley Avenue, and Independence Avenue. We will apply an integrated approach to help everyone to get into the festive spirits, to feel what Minsk was like then, 80 years ago, when the liberators entered the city," he stressed.
According to Vladimir Kukharev, the city will be decked up for the celebrations by1 May.
