Plans to introduce additional accountability for fake news in Belarus

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – There are plans to formalize additional accountability for those who disseminate fake news, Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Rakhmanov told reporters, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Rakhmanov noted that a number of countries are already introducing tougher punishments for fake news. He emphasized that disinformation is disseminated under the guise of credible information.

“Of course, the national legislation will provide for additional responsibility for those who are disseminating false, inaccurate information, all the more so presenting it as reliable, verified and accurate. This is happening in various areas of our life, including the country's development, its military capability, risks and challenges for national security, healthcare and so on,” he explained.
