Pilot training in Belarus no sooner than in 2022

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Pilot training in Belarus will start no sooner than in 2022, Belarus' Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Avramenko said in an interview with the Respublika newspaper, BelTA has learned.

When asked about the plans to set up a national flight school discussed last year, the minister remarked that it will be established at the Belarusian State Academy of Aviation. “At the moment we are actively working on this issue. The Department for Aviation has already set up a working team comprised of experienced pilots, engineers and the teaching staff of the Belarusian State Academy of Aviation who will draw up educational standards, curricula and syllabuses. We will need to introduce a new major, train the faculty staff and set up the physical infrastructure which will include some expensive simulators.”

The minister said that the new flight school will most probably require a separate building attached to the academy. “We are currently holding negotiations with the Development Bank in order to raise funds for this project. Considering the number of tasks we have to tackle, I believe that pilot training in Belarus will start no sooner than in 2022,” he said.

A reminder, Belarus does not train commercial pilots now. Belarusian pilots are sent for training to Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic countries.
