MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – We will preserve the memory of the liberators’ heroism through the centuries, CIS First Deputy Secretary General Igor Petrishenko said during a requiem rally to honor Hero of the Soviet Union Dzhumash Asanaliev, BelTA has learned.

A delegation from the CIS Executive Committee also participated in the rally.

"The leaders of CIS member states have declared 2025 (the year of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War) as the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight against Nazism. A corresponding plan comprising around 120 events was adopted at their instructions and approved by the heads of government. These activities are being actively conducted across all CIS countries. One of the most important activities in the plan is the establishment of a commemorative medal ‘Eighty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945’. In general, the CIS countries will host various events, including parades, seminars, roundtable discussions, festive concerts, tributes, and patriotic activities, especially for youth. Young people from all CIS countries will take part in the traditional Memory Train project, jointly organized by Belarus and Russia. It will begin on 21 June and travel through 15 cities in Belarus and Russia," Igor Petrishenko stated.

Veterans will receive special attention during all these events. "Unfortunately, their numbers dwindle every day. We, the present generation, must do our utmost to honor them and record their memories for future generations," Igor Petrishenko emphasized. "Every monument and memorial tied to those tragic events is being carefully maintained. We should preserve this memory through the centuries to ensure that the horrors of the Great Patriotic War never repeat themselves."

"We will always remember that Victory was won by the Soviet people. Representatives of all Soviet Union’s countries fought shoulder to shoulder to liberate from fascism not only our homeland but all of Europe. This heroic feat will forever remain in the hearts of today’s generation and, most importantly, future generations. That is our strength: the strength of the generation of victors," he concluded.
