MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – Central election commissions play an enormous role in shaping political culture in society, First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Petkevich said at the plenary session of the international conference “International Standards in the Electoral Process: Experience and Development Prospects”, BelTA has learned.
“Today you will discuss many topics, many problems. I would like to underline one topic, which, in my opinion, is the most relevant and extremely important for our countries - the formation of political culture in society. In my opinion, political culture is a key component of personal culture. Democracy must be taught. It must be explained that political rights, in particular electoral rights, are not implemented through promises, slogans, something catchy, trendy or non-standard. Political rights of citizens, participation in elections are primarily about effective and, most importantly, responsible participation in handling state affairs,” noted Natalya Petkevich.
“I believe that central election commissions can play a meaningful role in the formation of political culture in our society,” emphasized Natalya Petkevich.
