MINSK, 2 August (BelTA) - Russia highly appreciates Belarus’s help with the exchange of prisoners between Moscow and Washington and expresses its gratitude to President Aleksandr Lukashenko personally, spokesman for the Russian president Dmitry Peskov told the media, TASS reports.
"We, of course, express our greatest appreciation to the Belarusian KGB and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the president [of the Republic of Belarus] for the assistance that he provided personally," he said.
Earlier, Moscow expressed gratitude to Aleksandr Lukashenko for the goodwill gesture of pardoning German citizen Rico Krieger, who was sentenced to death, and who became one of the participants of the exchange.

Russia, the United States and Germany exchanged 26 prisoners at Ankara airport on 1 August, which was the largest prisoner swap operation in recent times.
