Parliaments of Belarus, Uzbekistan sign cooperation roadmap

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) — A roadmap to implement the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan was signed at the meeting between Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, and Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, on 27 August, BelTA has learned.

"Inter-parliamentary relations are very important, especially nowadays. People's elected representatives should do everything to preserve peace and calm, sovereignty and independence in the country," Natalya Kochanova emphasized.

The Belarusian delegation led by Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, is on an official visit to Uzbekistan. These days, Tashkent is hosting the second Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum. About 100 representatives of the business community and state agencies are taking part in the forum from the Belarusian side. The first day of the forum featured six sections covering the main areas of Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation: machine building, light industry, agriculture, chemical and woodworking industries, medical and educational services, and tourism. The main goal of the sessions is to demonstrate Belarus’ economic potential and encourage interest in establishing new contacts.

A plenary session will be held on the second day of the forum. Plans are in place to sign commercial contracts and cooperation documents during the forum. The Council of the Republic recalled the results of the first Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum: 14 memorandums and agreements on cooperation, including an agreement on the establishment of a joint leather and footwear enterprise, and 15 contracts worth over Br90 million (350 billion Uzbek sums) were signed.
