MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - Having visited Belarus, I regret that the African countries have only recently discovered Belarus, President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Fortune Charumbira told the media following the meeting of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko with the PAP delegation on 28 January, BelTA has learned.
"Unfortunately, I have to admit that Africa knew very little about the post-Soviet countries. We know about Russia, but unfortunately we don’t know much about other countries," he said. For example, the parliamentarians visited Azerbaijan a short while ago and were surprised that it is a country with excellent infrastructure, not inferior to any European country. "The same applies to Belarus," Fortune Charumbira stated.
Fortune Charumbira, living in Zimbabwe, knew about Belarus only that the country has a well-developed agriculture, tractor and bus manufactures. "But neither I nor my colleagues knew anything more. We didn't have the whole picture. When we came here, on the way from the airport to the hotel we saw your houses, roads, avenues of the capital. We visited your production facilities, including MTZ... When we saw all this, I began to regret that we did not know earlier where we should move. I wish we could start cooperating with Belarus earlier," he stressed.

"Belarus deserves to be taken as an example," Fortune Charumbira added. He is convinced that technological development, scientific and intellectual potential are the great strengths of Belarus. "This strength should be taken into account. Pay no attention to your enemies, who are trying to put pressure on you in some way. Remember your strengths and press forward," he addressed all Belarusians.
