Over 53t of food delivered to refugees stranded at Belarus-Poland border

GRODNO, 22 November (BelTA) – More than 53 tonnes of food products were delivered to refugees stranded at the Belarus-Poland border over two weeks, Secretary General of the Belarus Red Cross Dmitry Shevtsov told reporters on 22 November, BelTA has learned.

At present about 2,000 refugees are staying in the temporary accommodation facility in the logistics hub. They are provided with everything they need, including food. Food is delivered to them every day.

“By this morning, about 53.6 tonnes of products and food sets have been distributed, including bread, canned meat and fish, confectionery. About 15 tonnes of milk have been delivered, a large amount of water, but now it is less in demand, since the supply of drinking water has been arranged,” Dmitry Shevtsov said. At least 3.5 tonnes of food is handed out daily. For example, on 22 November about 5 tonnes of food will be distributed.

There is a good supply of products in the warehouses. New batches arrive daily. Red Cross volunteers keep in touch with partners from all over the country, companies, organizations that are ready to provide assistance and deliver food.

“In the morning, women can also get diapers and hygiene items in the tents where food for children is handed over,” Dmitry Shevtsov noted. He added that children received toys, coloring books, markers and pencils so that they can entertain themselves.
