Over 2,300 semi-trucks stuck at Belarusian border on way to Europe

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Over 2,300 semi-trucks are stuck at the Belarusian border with the European Union, BelTA learned from the website of the State Border Committee of Belarus.

As of 12:00 the situation was most complicated at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border: there were 520 trucks at the border checkpoint Kamenny Log, 400 trucks at the border checkpoint Benyakoni, 290 trucks in Kotlovka, and 290 trucks in Privalka.

As many as 500 semi-trucks were waiting for their turn to leave Belarus at the Belarusian-Polish border checkpoint Kozlovichi. There were 120 trucks at the border checkpoint Bruzgi and 70 trucks in Berestovitsa.

As many as 140 trucks were waiting for customs clearance at the Belarusian-Latvian border checkpoint Grigorovshchina.

The situation has been in place for quite some time. Malfunctioning equipment on the Lithuanian side and repairs at the border checkpoint Medininkai are cited as reasons behind the problem. In order to reduce the workload of some border checkpoints the Lithuanian side has reopened three border checkpoints: Sumskas (Losha on the Belarusian side), Tverecius (Vidzy), and Papialiakis (Lyntupy).

The State Border Committee of Belarus advises drivers to check the website for the latest news before travels.
