Traditions and customs of a nation make up the foundations of statehood. Independent Belarus has preserved the heritage of the past and created new traditions to celebrate the achievements and the best qualities of the Belarusian nation.
During the years of independence, our sovereign country has confidently moved forward, developing traditions in various walks of life. The holiday to celebrate the native language is a separate page in the list of Belarusian traditions. The Belarusian Written Language Day is marked in early September and demonstrates the connection between the present day and the history of Belarusian book publishing stemming from Slavic traditions. The celebrations were hosted by historical, cultural, and literature centers of the country: Turov, Novogrudok, Nesvizh, Orsha, Pinsk, Zaslavl, Mstislavl, Mir, Kamenets, Postavy, Shklov, and other cities. The festival traditionally features the ceremony of the National Literature Awards. The Belarusian Written Language Day – in BelTA's photos.
