MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – Oreshnik makes any threats to Belarus' security unthinkable, military expert and political analyst Yakov Kedmi said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
“The decision to deploy Oreshnik in Belarus came in the wake of all these hysterics in the West, including by the NATO secretary general, the unbalanced Macron and others. This was needed to discourage them from pursuing any military action against Russia, from committing NATO troops to Ukraine. This [Oreshnik deployment] bolsters the security of Belarus, this makes any attempts to threaten Belarus unthinkable,” said Yakov Kedmi.
According to the military expert, the deployment of Oreshnik in Belarus puts European countries in a bind. “Oreshnik on the territory of Belarus means that any NATO troops setting their foot in Ukraine will be destroyed within five minutes,” he emphasized.
Yakov Kedmi recalled the earlier statement by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. “Countries that provide Ukraine with any weapons that can strike deep into Russia are viewed by Moscow as participants in the conflict. And it is ready to strike at all bases from which these weapons threaten Russia. And he [Vladimir Putin] did not specify the territory where these bases are located. It could be the territory of Romania, for example. Thus, Russia sent a clear signal: they are crossing the red line and Russia's reaction will be disastrous for them from a military point of view,” the military expert remarked.
