MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – A western provocation has become the most likely explanation of the Ryanair plane incident, Aleksei Dzermant, a political analyst and a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, wrote in his Telegram channel commenting on the emergency landing of the Ryanair jet in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
“Protasevich's confessions suggest that the main version of the incident is a western provocation aimed at discrediting Belarus and creating a pretext for imposing new sanctions. Could the Belarusian authorities not have detained him? No, they could not have - the decision and the operation to arrest Protasevich and Sapega were the only solutions. A lot of information has been received,” the expert noted.
According to him, this story has far-reaching international implications. “The West is raising the stakes on all fronts ahead of the upcoming meeting between Putin and Biden, blaming Russia for the incident. Had there been no plane, there would have been something else. They are simply creating and looking for reasons to continue to put pressure on Russia and Belarus together and separately. They artificially raise tensions and create international crises,” Aleksei Dzermant said.
