MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – The West is using refugees to fulfill its own political ambitions, analyst at the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research Aleksei Avdonin told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
According to him, the situation at the Belarusian-Polish border is an opportunity for the EU to justify a possibility of new sanctions against Belarus and Russia. “We see how hard the European media are trying to put the blame for it on Belarus and even Russia and are calling to impose sanctions on these two states,” Aleksei Avdonin said.
The expert is sure that the West is not going to resolve the refugee issue. “It is clear that this is being done on purpose; they are not going to deal with the refugee crisis, they will not let refugees safely cross the border to join their relatives who live in Germany or other EU countries, not Poland. The West is taking advantage of these poor children, women and elderly people to achieve their political ambitions, that is to aggravate the confrontation and turn it, if possible, into an armed conflict, and thus to justify significant defense spending, the purchase of weapons and military equipment and the deployment of these weapons, military hardware and troops on the border of the Union State,” he added.
