MOGILEV, 19 July (BelTA) - The cultural and sport festival “Vytoki. A Step Toward Olympus” unites people in sport and creativity, Mogilev Oblast Governor Leonid Zayats told BelTA at the opening of this large-scale cultural and sport festival in Bobruisk.
“Such festivals make our people united and foster patriotism in their hearts. Over the time, the festival has found a proper response in all the cities it took place in. It demonstrates what the Belarusians cherish today and what they constantly cultivate - art, culture and sports. Moreover, the festival motivates everyone in our country to return to the roots of the Belarusian society. Learning our roots, step by step we are moving towards further development and independence of our Belarus,” said Leonid Zayats.
The governor also stressed that it was a great honor for Mogilev Oblast to host such a significant event. “For each region it is honorable and gratifying to welcome the Vytoki festival. This is a real celebration, which brought a lot of joy to both the residents of Bobruisk and guests of the city,” he said.
Bobruisk became the fifth location in the festival program. “Vytoki. A Step Toward Olympus” is a range of sport competitions and creative contests, in which the whole family can take part. Children and their parents visit thematic platforms, take part in a big Olympic quest and try their hand in various sports. The festival features performances by athletes, advice from famous coaches and Olympians, and also exhibitions and promotions.
According to the organizers, Mogilev Oblast is rich in sport traditions. There are more than 3,6000 sport facilities in the area, including 24 stadiums, 35 swimming pools, four ice arenas and 499 gyms. Mogilev athletes are the leaders of the national teams in various sports, and the names of Olympic champions Aliaksandr and Andrei Bahdanovich, Dzinara Alimbekava and Ihar Boki are well-known to sport fans far beyond Belarus.
