Opinion: Refugees on Belarus-Poland border still hope for the situation to resolve

GRODNO, 20 December (BelTA) - Refugees staying in the logistics hub near the Belarus-Poland border continue to live in hope of a positive resolution of the situation, member of the Council of the Republic Igor Gedich told the media on 20 December, BelTA has learned.

The refugees have been staying on the Belarus-Poland border for the 43rd day. They are staying in a temporary accommodation facility at the transport and logistics center Bruzgi near the Belarusian-Polish border. There are about 600 of them there, 40% of the total are women and children.

“The people who are here continue to believe that their aspirations will be met. They know that several German cities have said they are ready to accept refugees. People continue to live with that hope,” Igor Gedich said.

According to him, the weekend passed well. All services worked smoothly and as usual. “Refugees are provided with everything they need. A total of 168 tonnes of humanitarian aid has been distributed over the period. There is a stock of about 20 tonnes of food at present,” said Igor Gedich.

Medical workers are on standby 24/7. For the past day about 100 people addressed them for medical assistance. Six refugees - three adults and three children - are being treated in the hospital.

There are also three refugee women with newborn children in the crisis room of the Red Cross. Medical care has been arranged for them and their babies.

There is a mobile bathhouse nearby.
