Opinion: Patriotic education, image of army service are key on youth agenda

GRODNO, 13 January (BelTA) – Key issues on the agenda for young people include patriotic education and better image of the army service, support for talented youth and a successful career start, delegate to the Belarusian People's Congress, First Secretary of the Grodno Regional Committee of the BRSM Youth Union Anna Sarosek said in an interview with BelTA.

The Grodno Regional Committee of the BRSM Youth Union will be represented by 21 people at the Belarusian People's Congress. The candidates - 12 young men and 9 young women - were nominated at the plenum of the organization that took place at the end of December.

“Dialogue platforms, which were organized by the BRSM Youth Union in the region, identified the main areas of concern for our youth. The range of topics is wide and includes promotion of patriotism and civic consciousness. New approaches to army service, improving the image of army service, the possibility of creating ‘an army capital' are also high on the agenda. Other important topics are establishment of additional funds to support talented youth and the creation of attractive conditions to keep the youth in the countryside. Mentoring at the first workplace is also important, just like a possibility to offer preferences to employers hiring young people without experience.

“In our country, the society expects a lot from the youth and the youth expect a lot from the society. Many changes and innovations are due to the efforts of young people. Our task is to offer such ways of self-fulfillment to our youth that would benefit the country at large. It is necessary to create an enabling environment for the youth to gain experience and successfully build a career,” Anna Sarosek said.

The 6th Belarusian People's Congress will take place in Minsk on 11-12 February 2021. The main provisions of Belarus' social and economic development program for 2021-2025, as well as the trends of the country's social and political development will be discussed by the participants of the Congress. The total number of the participants and invitees will be 2,700 people.
